List of digg domain kills

Posted by rexdixon on December 22, 2006

Here is a list of the domains that digg has banned. Have no fear, 2007 will be a year of where digg is going to find some competition I’m sure. Not saying that digg will die or anything, but there will be alternative’s to digg in the coming year. I guarantee it.

digg digs further down deeper

Posted by rexdixon on December 21, 2006

Say that really fast 20 times. In fact, just remember that. Digg is doing one good thing. It’s opening up the way for other online services to do the same exact thing they are, but only better and with less bias.

I feel bad for this person. Cheer up, new services will be around in 2007 that will address your needs online!

You are Stupid

Posted by rexdixon on December 17, 2006

Web 2.0 harnesses the stupidity of crowds as well as it’s wisdom.”

That statement jumped off the screen at me. First they (Time magazine) are pumping everyone up by saying YOU are the person of the year. Then they just called you readers stupid. Then they try to justify the slap in the face, and call it wise.

That is what I love about writing. You can weave the words to fit the cause. You can write things that are nothing more then metaphors and in between the lines. You can make people think.

Podcasting is great too. There you can showcase your passion for something, and people can actually hear if you are trying to be funny, sarcastic, or just plain bumbling sometimes. Blogging is now passe. Not really. Blogging was so I guess as they say “last year“. There are what, according to Technorati about 55 million blogs.

With 2007 around the corner, I was just talking last night about how if “ABC signed Amanda Congdon“, that means that CBS, FOX, and NBC will all be looking for their version of that person. This all means the next social media experience will be in full force this coming year. Video Blogging, Vcasting, Vlogging – what ever term you use for it, it will be big. That could be YOU.

I am glad that the person of the year wasn’t YouTube or Google. At least Time has put the focus back on the people. In the case of this blog, that would be YOU the reader. It shows that Time is trying to remain in focus as far as admitting the new media out here is what is selling. That is without having to announce that digg and Facebook have been woven into the site such as the NY Times did earlier in the month.

Technically Speaking, congratulations person of the year – YOU! 🙂

Jason is paying $100 real money to out the scammers

Posted by rexdixon on December 12, 2006

I think that is great that Jason is putting his money to good use. It’s like a whistle blower program done internet style. I for one like it. Now on to the real issue here.

Digg. I think that after Kevin Rose let the cat out of the bag in one of his drunken rambles, he basically put the handwriting on the wall in spray paint so to speak. Do you really think that Kevin can also be like Nero and just fiddle away as Rome burns? The buck must stop somewhere. That somewhere is right in Kevin’s empty bottle of beer.

Digg is collapsing fast as a good source. There will be someone taking it’s place very soon. I can almost smell the money trail to the people who are burning the midnight oil to replace digg. I mean seriously, the site is pretty simple. People submit articles, other people check them out and if they like they “digg” it. There are other sites that are doing  similiar things, but you had the Kevin Rose who at the time was a “name” after leaving the Screen Savers, TechTV, and the original Screen Savers show.

He along with his counter parts of crime developed a loyal following straight to the internet. Good gig if you can get it. The only issue is that Nero fiddled away as Rome burned, will Kevin drink another one as Digg collapses? Now THAT is the true question at hand.

Again, I applaud Jason for trying to save the world from another scam operation by putting up $100 of real cash for anyone that wants to turn in a scammer. The real issue is -= Digg =- — collapse or recovery? Kevin holds the keys, and right now, I hope he is not driving a vehicle.

2006 was the explosion of the Social Web

Posted by rexdixon on December 10, 2006

Yes it was. We will all look back on 2006 as the year that the social web took off. 2007 looks to be a promising new year for Web 2.0 and beyond. News Corp buying MySpace, Google buying YouTube, and all the rest were instrumental in proving that the web economy is a viable and profitable one.

Not to mention that a game (Second Life) is making covers of traditional magazines or print media. Will Yahoo just plunk down that $1 billion in 2007 for Facebook so that Mark Zuckerberg can buy a closet full of suit jackets and open toed sandals?

Will 2007 be the year that Kevin Rose makes another $60 million while drinking beer in front of a camera on his couch for another diggnation episode? Will some other entrepreneur come along with even a faster way to download digital content such as movies and mp3’s?

If the RIAA gets it’s head on straight, it can also make a buck here. They just need not to be so greedy as the money for the music is all there. They just need patience. Rushing things to make that quick buck early, or basically raping a group of content creators – ie.. the musicians is NOT the thing to do. We all know p2p is here to stay, and the RIAA just needs to deal with it, and instead of taking more – they need to learn how to give back. Giving back will reap greater rewards in the end all.

The Web 2.0 or 2.1 going to 3.0 in 2007 is going to be a wild and fun time. What we talk about in December 2006 will be all but forgotten in December 2007.  Yes, this is all Technically Speaking!

schoolfizz

Posted by rexdixon on December 8, 2006

SchoolFizz, a Columbus, Ohio startup launches today. It could have been yesterday actually. It mixes Facebook and Digg all into one. Instead of digging, you are “fizzing“.3schoolfizz.PNG Sounds cool to me. Basically, not rewriting what is already there. It’s called something I advocate all the time. “Don’t reinvent the wheel, only improve it!” Sure there is room for the jet engine, and the rocket. It’s just that taking a jet or rocket to your place of work or leisure isn’t practical. We all still need “wheels”. Whether it’s a car or bicycle, wheels are a part of our everyday life.

Technically Speaking, so is the internet and web 2.0. Don’t reinvent it, just improve it and every now and again, let’s have a rocket or time machine or people living on the moon!

All Of mp3 to shut down

Posted by rexdixon on November 28, 2006

allofmp3All Of Mp3 to be shutdown by Russia. This is of course via digg. Now that the sheep has unclothed himself to reveal the wolf, do we believe it? Do we run with the story? Technically Speaking, it’s probably true, but don’t forget about the boy that cried wolf!

Digg, Digg, Digg that hole deeper…

Posted by rexdixon on November 27, 2006

Here is a nice breakdown on why Digg gets the numbers wrong. Hey.. it’s all about stats, and stats pretty much are very shady these days. Well at least Kevin $60 million manRose doesn’t think so.

Technically Speaking, I would love to do a diggnation 2. Hey if it made Kevin all that green, why not Rex Dixon? I can see it coming…. Mr. Business Golf in Addison, Rex Dixon in St. Louis.. yucking it up on video.
