If Social Media is DEAD …

Posted by rexdixon on December 30, 2006

Then I have wasted the past quarter of this year trying to build up my blog readers. I have wasted my time trying to build an audience. IF social media is dead, then why are there over 55 million blogs (according to Technorati at least)? IF social media is dead, how come John Edwards and his campaign team asked bloggers to join them on the road? Do you think John Edwards would have wasted his time by inviting Robert Scoble to join his team on the road IF social media is dead?

I believe that social media is growing, and will continue to do so. I also believe that being tagged in the first round for my opinion of the 2007 crystal ball show proves that I haven’t wasted my time. I also believe that being selected as one of the 32 bloggers to be included in BloggerMania I, even though a bit funny when I first saw it, proves that I haven’t been wasting my time.

Truthfully, the first time I blogged (and that blog is still around) was back in 2003. It’s my personal blog that I don’t advertise outside of friends and family. IF social media is dead, then how come other bloggers have come along since I launched my blog in 2003 and smoked right past me? They took the flame and ran with it. I thought at the time, “Okay, blogs are cool, but what can come of it; I’m looking for an IT gig?”

I was wrong back then, and I will have to say – social media is alive and well at the end of 2006. It will be just as strong and growing in 2007. Technically Speaking, I think the original article was written so that we social media types would have something to write about today and over the long holiday weekend. 🙂

The Blogging Business

Posted by rexdixon on December 30, 2006

Entrepreneur magazine has now started selling the book “9bloggingbook.jpgStart Your Own Blogging Business” – Books like these always crack me up. I guess if you have never tried blogging at all, it would be a good place to start.

Now here are some of Rex Dixon’s blogging tips:

1. Be prepared to spend long hours in front of your computer and laptop.

2. Be prepared for criticism from all corners of the world.

3. If you write something you think was fantastic, and hardly anyone reads it, you better be prepared for the letdown.

4. If you see something that works, try it with your own spin.

5. Don’t give up! According to Technorati there are over 55 million blogs.

Bloggers on the road with John Edwards

Posted by rexdixon on December 29, 2006

Scobleizer brings up a valid point in his latest entry from Reno; on the road with John Edwards. How will the average every day blogger, such as Rex Dixon be able to under take a week long or more trek with John Edwards and crew? It is a question of ethics and as Robert suggested, perhaps some sort of blogger fund needs to be established.

To be a blogger or reporter you have to watch the fund line. Full disclosure. Kind of reminds me of the whole Ferrari incident. Enough of that though. I think we all have read enough on that for now.

Going on the road with John Edwards and watching the political process and reporting back to the web daily is something that should be the way this election in 2008 is covered. While the mainstream media is catching up, the bloggers, vloggers, podcasters, and other internet media types have know all along how to effectively get the word out there. It is the power of the people that should decide things. To do that, and to also have an unbiased by any monetary consideration view of the events that transpire around you, the blogger must some how be self funded. It is either self funded or have a blogger fund so that all costs associated with the undertaking will be covered adequately.

Technically Speaking, I can bet Robert Scoble along with the other bloggers out there now are having the experience of a lifetime.

BloggerMania I – Rex Dixon feels like the 1-2-3 Kid

Posted by rexdixon on December 29, 2006

Yes, good old Sean Waltman, Syxx Pac, X-Pac, and the original 1-2-3 Kid. What am I babbling about? Well it’s BloggerMania I which is being put on by CenterNetworks. I see the 4 teams of 8 bloggers, and quite frankly I’m quite honored to have been included in this event of 32 bloggers.

The names rip off the page like main event stars of the past Mike “Hulkamania” Arrington, Om “Savage” Malik, Robert “The Brain” Scoble, Steve “Stunning” Rubel, and there is more. They have kindly included the lovely ladies, which feature Amanda “Stratisphere” Congdon, the lovely “Miss” Liz Gaines, and others. Yes it is an all star event, and you can read more coincidently enough on the day this site officially comes out of the beta simul-blogging mode – January 1, 2007.

Technically Speaking, I was being a bit of a goofball there I suppose, but it should be a fun tournament of bloggers. Any support you can throw Rex “1-2-3 Kid” Dixon’s way, will be much appreciated. Be sure to keep up with the all the wild tournament action by grabbing their RSS feed.

Congress Doesn’t GET it!

Posted by rexdixon on December 26, 2006

Why do they not get it? Because they are a bunch of out of touch polititians. They don’t have the pulse on society like say, Rex Dixon does. Polititians are mostly so out of touch with society in general, that “We The People” have no say in our American government.

They don’t realize that the internet is paving the way for – Business – in the 21st century. They would rather keep the people (that would be you the reader and myself) 19th and 20th Century enslavement. Why? Because they continue to make money for themselves by enslaving the people.

Congress is a big joke. No matter if it’s Democrat or Republican. Technically Speaking, they all need to be ousted. All 400 plus congress members and all 100 Senators. They have no place in 21st Century society. As far as I’m concerned, all 500 plus members need to pack their bags, and be replaced by a generation of progress and forward thinkers. They don’t realize that blogs, mashups, social networks, mp3 distribution sites, etc.. They are the 21st Century’s answer to 19 and 20th Century enslavement. Slavery is not legal, and Congress is behind keeping most of America back in the 20th Century.  Here is to hoping that in 2007, things will keep progressing foward – with or without a “congressional blessing”.
