Posted by rexdixon on November 29, 2006

It’s being reported everywhere, but all I can say is “Thank Goodness for a bit of wine just in time — that would be BitWine!”

Lotame – target marketing the social networks

Posted by rexdixon on November 29, 2006

lotameLotame, is a new company that will be coming online in December. They are using target marketing on the social networks. I believe target marketing was discussed in the Coffee show or the Happy Hour show just recently?

Technically Speaking, I am really liking the thinking of some of the newer companies; attacking issues that are out there and trying to resolve them.

Verizon adds Revver

Posted by rexdixon on November 29, 2006

revverLess then 24 hours later, Verizon has now added Revver. This will be added to it’s V-Cast service beginning in December! This is big news, in the past, Revver has always wanted to stand on it’s own and not be associated with YouTube.

Paramount and FOX and BitTorrent!

Posted by rexdixon on November 29, 2006

Well this just hit my news feed, or I would have included it in the BitTorrent post below.

Fox and Paramount are going to be announcing today (Wednesday) that BitTorrent will delivering movie content early this spring 2007. In February, BitTorrent will launch a video store where customers can download movies from such Hollywood studios as Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate and 20th Century Fox, as well as TV shows from MTV Networks.

Technically Speaking, as we have been saying lately “Who needs a TV?”.

Interview with Kaitlyn McLachlan, Founder of AskItOnline

Posted by rexdixon on November 29, 2006

askitonlineI just posted the article about the startup survey company called AskItOnline here the other day. Today we catch up with the company’s founder Kaitlyn McLachlan, and she sits in for 5 quick hit questions with Rex Dixon. Oh, and don’t worry Kaitlyn, the link’s all WORK this time. ;)

Q1: What is your vision behind askitonline and when did you start making the plans to bring it online?

I often wanted to gather information for various projects through a survey, but creating a survey seemed to be more trouble than it was worth. I found some services online that help you create surveys, such as SurveyMonkey.

I signed up for an account, and that was truly more trouble than it was worth. I can’t understand how much of their users could even use the interface. It’s very technical and difficult to work with unless you’ve done it many times before.

So, being a programmer, I decided to fix things on my own — and so AskItOnline came to life. I’ve been working on it for months and keeping it very quiet and only launched it into a private beta last week. Along with the beta testers, I’ve been adding and improving features on a daily basis and I do expect that AskItOnline will be able to enter a public beta in the very near future.

Q2: What industry do you think, or have you seen utilize your site the most so far?

I am confident that AskItOnline will appeal and work well for everyone from the small, simple user to large corporations requiring advanced functions, security, and analysis at their fingertips.

Q3: What do you believe is the biggest thing that askitonline has market advantage speaking over the other survey sites that are out there today?

Our biggest advantage is that we’ve brought online survey tools to the “web 2.0″ age. Rather than trying to remember the format you need to enter questions, waiting for slow page reloads, etc. you can utilize a drag ‘n’ drop interface as the survey editor. With the use of AJAX, less data needs to be sent back and forth resulting in a much faster process. The GUI interface makes it super easy for users of all computer experience to create surveys.

Q4: Give us some company specifications that you can share with our readers. ie.. company size, VC funding, management structure, etc… anything that you would like our readers to know about your company.

Triexa is the company behind AskItOnline. Triexa is primarily a web design and software development company based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Kaitlyn McLachlan is actually the only person working on AskItOnline at the moment. She is the founder, designer, programmer, and more – along with help from beta testers and other users.

Q5: Do you have any final thoughts for the readers, or more like a final pitch as to “why” someone should use askitonline over another survey site?

AskItOnline is extremely easy to use, and will work just fine whether you prefer Internet Explorer, Firefox, or some other browser. While constantly being improved, the survey editor is top-notch and allows you to create a survey in minutes which may have previously taken you hours.

BitTorrent $25 million

Posted by rexdixon on November 29, 2006

bittorrentBitTorrent, as we had stated last night there was a rumor which is clearly marked as such on Om’s site, of $15 million in new funding. Now there are a couple of stories this morning that you can check out.

It looks like from the one story on TechCrunch, BitTorrent is going to receive a total of $25 million and the CEO Bram Cohen is out. The other one from ValleyWag says Accel Partners is leading the funding. Technically Speaking, BitTorrent is about to get a nice chunk of change to shake up the online movie industry.
