Trillian Astra

Posted by rexdixon on November 21, 2006

astra logoIt’s coming according to Cerulean Studios. I have been using Meebo lately, as I don’t need all the flashy features I guess. When I feel like chatting, I just want to chat. I watched the video on the accompanying write up, and thought it showed some nice things going on there.

Technically Speaking, I miss the days when chat was IRC. Plain and simple. Yes, there are allot of bells and whistles going on with the new generation of chatting, but I still prefer chatting to chat.

Mpire

Posted by rexdixon on November 21, 2006

mpire logoMpire. Yes, as stated already - “just in time for the holiday shopping season“. This seems to be a plugin type of shopping tool, again - just in time for Black Friday. Tomorrow, and late Thursday night you should be using this tool as well as the other one I reported about earlier today called The Bargainist.

Technically Speaking, and literally also - Rex Dixon doesn’t go shopping on Black Friday!

The Spy who loved YOU

Posted by rexdixon on November 21, 2006

Well the FTC has shut them down as of today. Now come on, how long has this been the biggest con game going? I’m not talking tech here only, but if you recall the snake oil salesman of yesteryear — this isn’t a much different game then what they liked to play on all the naive people going out to the wild, wild west back then.

Technically Speaking - if you had Spy Deleter, also known as Mailwiper, Spy Wiper or something from SmartBot.net — guess what — you were burned by this guy. If I was you, I’d be kind of angry at him. Not only that, I’d be mad at the FTC as they should have shut him down a long time ago as these allegations went back to October 2005!

Tiny Guitar Amp!

Posted by rexdixon on November 21, 2006

I’ve been doing this blogging and podcasting so much as of late, I finally realized the other day I haven’t picked up my guitar in a couple of months! Literally! I did the other day, and I could have played for hours, but of course I had to be somewhere else and to hop my turn in the shower.

tiny ampThis little amp, seems to be the ticket. Currently I have a tiny amp, Peavey Rage-158. The “15” stands for 15 watts, and the “8” is the size of the speaker as in 8 inch speaker. It does have good tone, and I have done some recording with it. In fact as the one comment said to the article - Jimmy Page used a tiny amp also in the recording studio. They are much easier to handle and you can get a killer recording over a 4×12 sometimes if you know what you are doing. Yes, before you ask, I use to have a Randall Full Stack (150 watt hot rodded head; 12ax7 tubes, etc.. about all I can remember of the specs) back in the day. NOW that was FUN also, but…

BUT — this little amp ONLY has 1/2 watt of power. Yes, you read that correctly - 1/2 watt. It’s all tube though, and hand made. I guess you can really rock out with it, and believe me after years of hauling equipment from car, truck, etc.. to the stage, and playing and hauling it all back again — the lighter the load, the more fun it is!

Technically Speaking, along with a replication - or a Rex Dixon version - of Leah’s Laptop - I would definately put this little guy as another item that I would be willing to trade for some sponsor ads,  here on the blog or podcast.

The Bargainist

Posted by rexdixon on November 21, 2006

Just in time for all the sales on Black Friday, The Barginistthebarginist logo launched today. It’s probably going to be a must read before you head out to get those deals. This might not interest you at the moment, hours before my favorite holiday - Thanksgiving - but… you will wish you had bookmarked it now come the time when the turkey is slashed, the potatoes are mashed, and the cranberry and pumpkin pie is slammed down.

Technically Speaking, it appears to be a nicely stripped site, should work fine come Thursday evening for your Friday shopping festivities.

AOL appoints new President

Posted by rexdixon on November 21, 2006

AOL said on Tuesday it has appointed Ron Grant as its new Chief Operating Officer and president.

Grant served as a senior vice president of operations at Time Warner and had worked closely with Time Warner COO Jeff Bewkes on AOL’s new strategy.

Technically Speaking, this almost was buried deep in one of my feeds, missed it the first time around!

Ads on a Laptop?

Posted by rexdixon on November 21, 2006

Well Rex Dixon runs on a used IBM Thinkpad. It’s not bad at all, 1.2 ghz, 512 mb ram, 30 gb HD, DVD (no burner though!) - and it’s just fine. I’ve been using more of the desktop lately though as the better half uses the laptop from the couch and catches up with her TiVo shows for the day.

BUT … if you all want me to walk about with a Ad infested Mac like the one Leah received - I have no issues with that! In fact, I would take one as a trade for sponsoring the blog, the podcast, etc. Yes, Technically Speaking - Rex Dixon is willing to use and start using a Mac just like Leah has!

Google pulls click to call

Posted by rexdixon on November 21, 2006

Google Click To Call logoGoogle decided that it needed to finally pull click to call today. I am actually surprised that they let it stay online this long. They let it stay up for 5 days, and I wonder how many businesses had prank phone calls during that time?

Mark Zuckerberg, are you listening now?

Posted by rexdixon on November 21, 2006

I guess you want to continue to flip flop your way into obscurity? Rex Dixon already told you yesterday to wake up and smell the coffee. Today, it appears that even your peers and well, the people that are right in your neighborhood tend to agree. I don’t make this stuff up Mark.

You remember Mr. Adler? er, Mr. Friendler? Oh, I mean the guy who turned down good money because he was too stupid to realize what was being handed to him? Yeah, look at him now, “nightclub owner - ha! - More like ex-could-have-been-should-have-been! Hey the mainstream news can’t even get his name right anymore can they? Ah, I guess I’ll be nice - Jonathan Abrams, Friendster founder and turner downer of millions from you know, Google. I guess Google didn’t know squat, and Jonathan wanted to hold out for something that would meet - a. His Honesty, b. His Honor, c. OR.. just like HIM – HE just wanted more cash then his company really deserved.

Technically Speaking, Mark it’s your choice man, disappear into obscurity, open up another nightclub - you do know the lifespan of those places, right? - and drink away and talk about days of greatness that could-have-should-have-never-will-be because you have your you know what stuck where? That’s right, it’s time you take a listen to the Coffee #4 show, it’s for your own good.

Think hard Mark - Is Facebook really worth more then you have been offered so far? Or is your goal to open up a club right along with Mr. Friendster, and drink until your liver rots into obscurity along with you, what you have achieved, and much more.
