Ze Frank vs Rocketboom, Vsocial

Posted by rexdixon on October 27, 2006

Ze Frank is in some sort of nerd fight with Rocketboom. It’s again over a topic I have talked about on the podcast as well as here in the blog - overrated stats, stat manipulation, lying without getting caught, etc… The funny bottom line here is the line in the article that states defacto - TechCrunch is much larger than both of them combined. Way to spank both of them, and send them on their way. I believe that line says it best.

Vsocial is another video site, which I have never taken a look at. Until now of course. They just raised another $1.5 million in funding from Ron Conway and Consor Capital.

Technically Speaking, if all of the above companies can receive VC funding, I believe that there is a huge audience that will be needing a Business Golf seminar very soon! Or at least they will need a copy of the book - How To Play Business Golf.

Another IE7 BUG!, DVD John goes at something bigger!, Diebold

Posted by rexdixon on October 27, 2006

Yet another bug has been found in Microsoft’s recently-released Internet Explorer 7 browser. The software giant is downplaying the flaw, which security experts say allows hackers to “spoof” Web addresses.

With the news this week that he had broken the digital rights management (DRM) protections in iTunes, 22-year-old Viking hacker Jon Johansen once again put himself front and center in the issue of copy protection vs. intellectual properly. Only this time, he’s taking a much greater risk.

Diebold secretly fixed glitches? Do NOT believe it! You know what to do if you have listened to the podcast from last night!

Technically Speaking, more coming atcha!

Vox

Posted by rexdixon on October 27, 2006

Six Apart launched their social networking site called Vox. I saw this late last night also. Nice that I waited as Liz of GigaOm has a semi-review of the party last night. Technically Speaking, I was somewhere this morning and already saw a “Vox” banner ad already.

NetSuite, itsyourtvshow.com

Posted by rexdixon on October 27, 2006

The San Mateo, Calif.-based company (NetSuite) unveiled SuiteFlex, a new application development platform that allows programmers to write applications that connect to NetSuite’s flagship products. NetSuite is a business ERP software package.

itsyourtvshow.com according to this article looks to be stepping up the video online game. This should all be interesting to watch as this video market should shake out in the next 12-18 months. Technically Speaking, I wonder how many video companies will come and go by then?

$22 Million lost, *Corrected*->Social Media, Google Bombing

Posted by rexdixon on October 27, 2006

Two American brokerage houses have written off $22 million in fraud losses on their third quarter financials, citing spyware, stolen identities and hacker fraud as the cause.

Om does what he does best. Correction, the article was written by Robert Young and NOT Om. My apologies for the mistake! He wrote a nice article on the social media boom, and compared it as New Hollywood or is it all just the New Pittsburgh. Read it!

This is quite the interesting campaign tactic. I love the fact that the political parties are realizing the power of the internet. It is quite funny that they are using Google to maximize the potential that is there. The are calling it Google Bombing. Technically Speaking, I think there is a full on business idea brewing there.

Jawed Karim-YouTube, Simply Hired, Maya’s Mom, ChatterBlocker

Posted by rexdixon on October 27, 2006

Jawed Karim gave an interesting lecture this week at U of I. If you didn’t know, he is one of the founders of YouTube - which if you didn’t know or have been living under a rock - was acquired recently by Google. Check out the article that Liz wrote for GigaOm.

Simply Hired which is partially funded by Fox Interactive seems to be a good job site according to TechCrunch.

Maya’s Mom raised funding in the Angel round. According to TechCrunch they are like Yahoo answers meets Facebook.

ChatterBlocker. I saw this last night, and figured I’d let everyone know about it today. Technically Speaking, without a demo or something to check out, there is really not much I can say about this!

Kevin Rose clip 2004, Adobe Soundbooth, Welcome to 1984, Google Blog Alert

Posted by rexdixon on October 27, 2006

I saw this earlier today, and I had to make sure everyone was able to check it out. This was Kevin Rose from an archived 2004 clip off the old Screen Saver’s show. This is where he showcased digg as in the third person. Great clip, you have to give it a view.

Adobe Soundbooth beta. Looks like winning software, and since they own Cool Edit Pro, it should be a very easy to learn how to use.

The lunch lady will now need you to next step over to the retina scanner. That is coming right around the corner, next semester.

Google does it again right? Well something like that. Here is a tip, if you want to know what is on this blog - Technically Speaking - check in about once every 12 hours, and I’m sure you’ll be right up to date!
