Box.net – 500,000 users – series A funding, IBM sues Amazon, Free WiFi Dead in the Big Easy!

Posted by rexdixon on October 23, 2006

Box.net has or rather will announce later today that it received series A funding to the tune of $1.5 million. I guess they already are planning to go IPO as this was already in their SEC filing!

IBM today filed two suits in the Eastern District of Texas, alleging that Amazon has “willfully infringed” on at least five patents.

Free WiFi in the Big Easy is dead. Looks like it’s all coming to an end. Technically Speaking this smells as bad as hurricane Katrina and it’s aftermath!

Cisco TelePresence, Jingle, Vista Security, MLM’s trying to be social networks!!

Posted by rexdixon on October 23, 2006

Cisco TelePresence Meeting, available for small or large gatherings, is the first TelePresence product from the San Jose, Calif.-based company and just the latest in a number of video offerings by the networking giant. This is in reference to my earlier post about the whole video conferencing thing that Om and his site was all ga-ga over today.

Jingle just raised another $30 million in series C funding. They are now worth $150 million, and you can read more about them here.

Microsoft is fine-tuning the final security model for the Windows Vista operating system and not everyone is happy with the changes.

Technically Speaking – one thing I hate are MLM’s aimed at looking like a social networking site. I was contacted by one, and I for one do not like the amount of time I wasted there!

According to TechCrunch, some time this past weekend the Google Blogsearch is now on the Google News page.

ToPeer – P2P startup, Video Conferencing, Meet New People

Posted by rexdixon on October 23, 2006

ToPeer is a P2P Ottawa, Canada startup. The team running this has raised series A funding, and their background is in the ISP world.

Video Conferencing is the hot thing again. GigaOm.com as well as Web Worker Daily has articles this morning on it.

Meeting new people has never been easier. There are two places that match you now by activity. One is called Who’s Going and the other one is called MatchActivity.

Technically Speaking, it’s all just social networking.
