Tailrank relaunched today to take on Techmeme. Should be interesting. Read the article here on TechCrunch.

Phanfare is a new photo, video storage service. How many of these are out there anyways? Is there really a need for this many of these sites or software packages?  Read the TechCrunch article.

SpotDJ, Earfeeder, Movable Type 1.5 Enterprise

Posted by rexdixon on October 16, 2006

SpotDJ sounds like a product that doesn’t really hold any Rex Dixon appeal at this time. I don’t foresee this to take off too well, but you never can tell.

Earfeeder seems like a useable tool on the surface, but my question is - “Is this just too much junk to worry about for your computer and sound files?” The Rex Dixon thoughts are middle of the road on this one.

SixApart just released the 1.5 version of their Enterprise MovableType software. Now this is something Rex Dixon likes and uses on his other blog; and Technically Speaking it’s a winner!

Yahoo/CBS, GigabitDSL, uWink, LiveLocker=DeadPool

Posted by rexdixon on October 16, 2006

Yahoo has come to terms with a deal with CBS to syndicate 16 local newscasts. Looks like Yahoo for now is passing up temptations to write a big $1.65 billion dollar check for Revver.

GigabitDSL is coming. Or it’s here? I guess it’s going to be coming soon. The technology is officially called technology called the Dynamic Spectrum Management (DSM).

What do Atari and Chuck E Cheese have in common? Their founder! If you live in California, southern to be exact - check out his line of restaurants themed in games at uWink.

LiveLocker was added to the DeadPool by TechCrunch today. There are more companies going to the DeadPool lately, more companies are emerging and Technically Speaking this is the time for Rex Dixon to be where he is!

GoogleTube acquistion paid for, Grouper

Posted by rexdixon on October 16, 2006

According to the numbers, it looks like the Google-YouTube acquistion was paid for already last week.

Grouper - was probably a better deal for Sony though. Technically Speaking, videos are on the rise on the internet.

McAfee buys, MySpace shifts, Singapore rocks!

Posted by rexdixon on October 16, 2006

McAfee looks to be trying to quietly acquire the security and data protection market. They just made a $20 million cash purchase of data-protection solutions vendor Onigma Ltd.. This of course is in addition to their latest acquisition of Citadel Security for $56 million cash at the beginning of the month.

StarHub is basically giving you FREE broadband. The catch? You have to live in SINGAPORE. Sorry, USA citizens living in the country called middle North America, need not apply! All kidding aside, you have to buy the $50 modem, but that’s pretty much like free!

MySpace is now pushing videos with the uneasy feeling it’s getting with big bad boy GoogleTube waiting to snatch up and corner the market. Technically Speaking, why doesn’t MySpace invest in some technical network engineering support? If you have a MySpace account, you already know that if you don’t login into your MySpace account before 8pm at night you pretty much are screwed for the next couple of hours! That tells me that your network and servers are overloaded. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that something is majorly wrong there, and again Technically Speaking; I think that issue needs addressed before you start pushing video content all over the place!
