Time Warner to sue GoogleTube, Microsoft To Use Colloquis, PayPerPost Spreading

Posted by rexdixon on October 12, 2006

Here we go — Looks like what I have been saying in the podcasts and the blogs are now in the open. It’s almost the end of the week, and finally someone has realized that Google basically bought up a copyright infringing companyYouTube. I have said it again and again, it’s no different then Napster was in the beginning. You are stealing money from copyright holders. No, I’m not Lars Ulrich, but that is the truth.

Microsoft is going to be using Colloquis in it’s new Windows Live Services Agents that they are rolling out. Never heard of Colloquis? Neither have I! It’s basically that natural language processing technology that you may have heard of. Soon, you may be really having a conversation with your computer.

PayPerPost – is now spreading like a virus. From what the crew at TechCrunch is saying, it’s like payola – so for now – steer clear for awhile.

Yes, the podcast is up online at this hour. Give it a listen – 7 Minutes with Rex Dixon – 10/12/2006 — here is the quick rundown of the show:

* Week Ending show – house cleaning, etc.

Technically Speaking – that’s it for this evening – listen to the podcast, read all the stories that you haven’t read yet that I have blogged here in the past week! More in the morning…

FCC vote Friday for ATT – BellSouth Merger

Posted by rexdixon on October 12, 2006

Net Neutrality seems to be the sticking point here. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin also favors an unconditional approval of the merger, but the two Democrats on the five-person panel are pushing hard for network neutrality provisions to be attached to the deal.

Technically Speaking, I can bet that Mr Business Golf is out of that business!

Nortel faster WiMAX, Wisconsin joins Google, Windows vs Linux

Posted by rexdixon on October 12, 2006

Nortel is now promising a faster MIMO based WiMAX. This is set to be available mid-2007.

The Google book scan project gets a boost from the University Of Wisconsin-Madison. They have agreed to take part in the project.

Windows vs Linux. The battle goes on. Technically Speaking, I’m glad there is a OS out there that is trying to help evolve all PC users.

LinuxPhone

Posted by rexdixon on October 12, 2006

It looks like the cell phone industry is having a harder time in the development world then the regular software industry. Mobile software company Trolltech based in Oslo talks about this with Katie of gigaom.com.

Technically Speaking – Yahoo needs to start negotiating with Revver!

Transmeta sues Intel, PC-BSD gets “Aquired”

Posted by rexdixon on October 12, 2006

It looks like Transmeta Corp. couldn’t come to terms with Intel, so it’s time to go to court! Does anyone know if Linus Torvalds of Linux fame still work there? That is his name right? Going off of my old memory banks right now!

PC-BSD which is a PC version of FreeBSD looks to have been “aquired” or really funded. Technically Speaking, secure OS is a good thing to get out there!

Money, Merger Delays?, Yahoo-Facebook?, Google-FAQ builder, Linksys WRT350N

Posted by rexdixon on October 12, 2006

Payscale isn’t a new company, but it has been doing what another company had failed to do – wageexchange - according to this article by TechCrunch this morning. If you are interested to see if you are keeping up with the Jones, Smiths, or even the Arrington’s - check it out!

Om was digging, and he found out that the so called AT&T + Bell South merger may run into a snag. I guess the DOJ rubber stamped things too quickly, and didn’t I allude to to something like — cash money being handed over to both companies CEO’s or someone in the upper echelon’s of both companies — that in my earlier post on this?

Yahoo is thinking about Facebook, but I believe that Google has sort of out priced the neighborhood these days. That $1.65 billion aquisition of YouTube pretty much has put a negative vibe in the air I would think. Why you may ask? Well every company thinks they are worth that much money now. Yes, even Rex Dixon was asking for a percentage of it the other night in the podcast. You know, the one where the person didn’t get the joke! I still believe the best counter move for Yahoo to make would be to either partner up with or aquire Revver.

Google has another ingenious idea. I like it allot. Just read about it, and see if YOU can come up with something better.

Linksys WRT350N or should I say bringing the gigabit switched routing and 802.11n to the consumer level. The street price is pretty decent too. $120! Not bad, and now all I will be hearing in the coming months is how much faster”n” wireless is then my current “g” wireless access I have setup!

Technically Speaking, that router above is a great way to start off your day, and end this blog post!
