Posted by rexdixon on October 10, 2006

GeezusGoogle beats the rest once again. <— Interesting side note — the minute after I posted this link to the TechCrunch article it was *poof* — **GONE** so.. the article may or not be there when you click it!

They just released Docs and Spreadsheets

That tells me one thing. Google has blog readers! Google has podcast listeners! Technically Speaking that bodes well for Rex Dixon!

Zoho Virtual Office – Launch tomorrow, Who’s Next?, Level 3, Revver

Posted by rexdixon on October 10, 2006

Zoho which I mentioned here the other day has stepped up the release of their Zoho Virtual Office or what they will be calling ZohoX at the Office 2.0 conference tomorrow. Look for it to be the big talk tomorrow unless..

There is another freakin’ buy out going down! You all remember Monday’s crazy Google-a-You-Tube-a-Thon right? Well even CNN money is chiming in with their thoughts on the next buy out.. but…

Om says it will be Level 3, which is kind of funny as back 5 years ago I worked with a guy here in St. Louis that was “downsized” from Level 3 offices here. Then my bet ..

Is still as I joked and hinted to earlier – Yahoo buys Revver! Now the article link is of course talking about a great move that Revver just made hooking up with a UK TV station. Just remember – if the statement actually happens (Yahoo Buys Revver!) , please remember where you just read that – well anyone from Yahoo with some influence at least!

I made my service pitch to Google last night. Should I venture down that road again and get a little Technically Speaking on Yahoo also?

IPv6, Google $1.65 Billion Return, Web Workers Picture

Posted by rexdixon on October 10, 2006

IPv6 is about to go global according to this article. Okay, IPv6 has been around for awhile and it has never actually caught on. When will it? I guess if the government gets involved it will trickle down to the masses eventually. I saw an actual IPv6 address back in like 1998, 1999 timeframe – and let me tell you – it’s too much junk for the normal users.

Well everyone is sick of hearing about Google buying YouTube. Let’s get to the point – this article talks about how Google will recoup the $1.65 Billion it has paid for YouTube.

This is a nice picture of how allot of Web Workers at work or working. If you snap one, definately send it in via the address in this article. Now on to the real burning news; Technically Speaking that is – ie.. read the above blog post!

Lala, VentureBoard, High Speed w/o Fiber, MS Click To Run

Posted by rexdixon on October 10, 2006

Lala looks to be going strong. It appears that the company is taking over WOXY to allow users to create streaming radio stations that will in turn inspire CD swapping and purchases. Read the entire article here.

VentureBoard - another outlet for the tech startups. Basically a classified ads site for startups to unload or get funding. Read the entire article here.

A group of technology and telecoms companies, including Spanish giant Telefonica, joined forces on Tuesday to boost the Internet speeds of copper telephone wires to almost equal that of fiber-optic cable. This could be very interesting for Europe – what about the USA?

A little Q&A with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on Internet based application distribution models. He was speaking at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2006. Is this article or the site out of date? ? ? No clue,  and really could care less, Technically Speaking it was an interesting article to Rex Dixon!

Qloud beta launch, Sprint Nextel Exec OUT!

Posted by rexdixon on October 10, 2006

Qloud is a small Washington D.C. startup that had a beta launch today. Lewis and cofounder Toby Murdock both worked with digital music at AOL and Ruckus. Their development is done by a full-time team of 10 in Romania. They have initial funding right under $1 million from suspected person “I am!” SteveAOLTimeWarnerCase. Read the entire article here.

Another one bites the dust… at Sprint Nextel today.  Sprint’s difficult time could be a indicator of the tough market ahead for the mobile industry.

Technically Speaking, time for me to dive outta here again!

Spiders to Ants, MuniFI failing, acTVila.com, Laser TV = X-mas 2007

Posted by rexdixon on October 10, 2006

Ants? Yes, according to the article, it’s going to be the business way of doing things soon. I agree, as with a spider (which btw, Rex Dixon doesn’t like; the real thing) – you just don’t get the current data that you need.

Om is on top of it again. Looks like MuniFi isn’t the business to get into. Read about one MuniFi company giving it up.

acTVila.com – not launching until Feb. 2007, but of course it isn’t here – but over in Japan!

Laser TV – coming to a store near you —- Christmas 2007!

My question of the day is – “When is Yahoo going to buy up Revver?” Technically Speaking, we need another good video company buyout before the end of the week!

Blinkx, Sun’s Virtual World – Second Life

Posted by rexdixon on October 10, 2006

Here is a little more about Blinkx if you have never heard of it. Looks like they are going for the TV generation. Should be interesting with Microsoft behind them now.

Sun is now adopting a virtual world to do their conferences. The place is called Second Life. According to the article link above, $207,348 was spent in the last 24 hours at Second Life up to the time of the article (Oct 9th).  I guess we have now been officially sucked into our computers; Technically Speaking we will all have USB ports or Firewire ports into our brain soon!

Microsoft Signs Blinkx, Smalltown.com, XO Network Alive!

Posted by rexdixon on October 10, 2006

Microsoft yesterday quietly signed Blinkx. Looks like they will be making the announcement today, Tuesday.

Yesterday with the Google-YouTube hype, I’m surprised it wasn’t a banner day for bank robbers out there in Silicon Valley! The mainstream media is finally getting it to the web. Reminds me of this so called stock guru I know that told me like a hour before the Google-YouTube deal,”Yeah, these things take time… blah.. blah.. blah.. it won’t happen… blah.. blah..

BAM! Just like last night’s fun podcast I did —- BAM! Done deal, before so called stock guru left the deal was done. It’s fun to be right, and especially at some so called experts opinion. We here connected readers all knew the deal was getting done though, and if Mike Arrington says so – it’s pretty much a 99.9% chance that it’s going down - mainstream media still hasn’t caught up to the blogs and podcasts out there.

Smalltown.com is launching this evening. Lot’s of flash, but it might float in a small town kind of way. Let’s keep an eye on them.

XO Networks is still alive. Which is a good thing since they are connecting 75 cities and have 18,000 miles of network! I too, like Om, remembers when they were the hottest thing going. Glad to see they are still around, and Technically Speaking it’s time for me to get a move on to the day gig for awhile.
