Telcom 2.0, First Sony PS3 Kiosk, Nokia N Series, Fusic has problems!

Posted by rexdixon on October 1, 2006

The new face of Telcom will be kicking off a conference on October 4th according to GigaOm.com. I guess they will be discussing how to make money in the IP world.

It looks like the first Sony PS3 kiosk has showed up. Now Engadget says they want one in their article, and guess what? Rex Dixon would also like to have one, you know for reviewing purposes of course!

Now speaking of phones, GigaOm.com has a great article here about the new Nokia N Series phones. They reviewed a few of them early this week, and the reviews I read blows my old Nokia 5225 phone away! Well of course it does, my old cell is in high need of an upgrade – hint, hint Nokia!

I am a bit bummed though, as I was about to upgrade to the Fusic phone which is a nice phone my carrier (Sprint) has right now. The above Engadget article though has me having second thoughts now; at least Technically Speaking.

$6 billion in ad Revenue for Google, Craigslist isn’t selling out

Posted by rexdixon on October 1, 2006

Interesting article mainly on Google Earth, but apparantly online ads are making some money – and for Google – $6 BILLION in ad revenue! Now that is a reason to put ads on your page I think. If you can generate that many views, and actually have $6 BILLION come in to your company off of ads alone, well that pretty much justifies the ad game. Annoying as it may be, ads are here to stay. As also stated yesterday in my blog post about Six Apart and LiveJournal – ads are here to stay, get use to them.

Now the nice part of this blog post is that Craig Newmark – the “Craig” of craigslist.org says he want’s no part of being a billionaire. I’m wondering honestly how long he will hold out? I mean as I have said before and I’ll say it again – “Never, say Never!” in a public forum! To again quote the milliondollar man Ted DiBiase — “Everyone has his PRICE!” - Folks, that isn’t only Technically Speaking – because you and everyone else know it – It’s the TRUTH!!

Netvibes new look, Dell FREE Recycling

Posted by rexdixon on October 1, 2006

Netvibes did a quiet release of a new look. I like Netvibes. It seems to put everything you want on the web in one spot. Give it a look.

Originally reported back in June on Engadget’s site. It looks like Dell’s Free Recycling program is in full swing now. It’s kind of funny to read the comments – it seems that it’s MAC users against PC users!

Rex Dixon will take either an Apple MacBook or a Dell Inspiron E1705. I will entertain doing a review for either company or both and I’ll do a nice review on it; a comparison review if you will. I’ve always been a PC person, but if given the opportunity to do a side by side review, I would not turn down the above MacBook; Technically Speaking that is.

Women Take Top Prize – Yahoo Hack Day, MP4 Playing Watch

Posted by rexdixon on October 1, 2006

The top prize at Yahoo Hack Day went to an all women’s team. What did they do? The winning project, called Blogging In Motion, combined a camera, a handbag, a pedometer and the Flickr API to create a device that takes a picture after every few steps and then automatically blogs those pictures.

The device was created by Diana Eng, Emily and Audrey. TechCrunch was still tracking down Emily and Audrey’s last names. I hope that Michael Arrington of TechCrunch will have further information on them later on.

Here is a very cool MP4 Playing Watch. Back about 5-6 years ago, I happened to have one of those wrist cam watches. I like cool watches. No prices are available currently, but if you read the article on Engadget linked above, there are a few other companies already doing this. This one is made by Shenzhen Adragon. For some reason I think that even though it seems a bit ridiculous to have that on your wrist, the company (Shenzhen Adragon) can more then send Rex Dixon one to demo and do a write up on; and that’s of course Technically Speaking.
